W3Schools is a online school/portal which helps newbie's in learning any difficulty in any Computer Language and has various tutorials in Computer Language such as HTML, XML, CSS, and JavaScript.

This is a complete free website which is funded by Ads displayed on the site. W3schools.com has a traffic rank of: 1,955 .It is developed and owned by Refsnes Data. W3Schools was founded in 1999. It is one of my favorite websites as it helps a lot newbie's in programming field and has appropriate tutorials . So I had to feature it here .

RapidShare.com

RapidShare is one-click file hosting website which is owned by a German and the website is operated through Switzerland.This site founded in 2006 it is the world's largest Files Sharing website and has a Traffic Rank of 12.

Rapidshare.com was basically Rapidshare.de which is a top level German domain but in 2006 all drives of Rapidshare.de was full so Rapidshare.com was released.

Features
It allows its users to upload files up to 200 MB with ease of a click which is great for Sharing Photos and things. People can upload files of huge GB's by splitting the archive's.

Drawbacks
Rapidshare these days is a great piracy hub for exchanging Software's, Movie's and Game's online. Thus annoying many organizations.

Twitter.com

Twitter is a micro blogging service started in 2006. Through Twitter people communicate to outer world and express their concerns. Twitter is a free social networking site, Thus generating no Revenue. People regularly update their twitter accounts by giving new status message which is also know as Tweets.

The Updates are shown in the User Profile and displayed to those who are following that User. Twitter had by one measure over 3 million accounts and by another, well over 5 million visitors in September 2008 which was a fivefold increase in a month.

Napster

Napster was the first sharing thing in the Web2.0. It was created by Shawn Fanning
when he was in Northeastern University in Boston, He created the Software for Audio/Mp3 sharing and circulated to some of his friends. Those friends again circulated to their friends and it went on and on and soon within 1-2 week it was found more than million people were using Napster.

It grew popular and popular but the major drawback was that it was violating ' Copyright Violations ' it was said that during napster time the Music stores were vacant and everyone prefered to get Music through napster, It was easy and also saved huge bucks. All the music companies were annoyed by napster there sales went down due to napster its aim was ' You give me a song and I will also give a song '

But Napster time was ended in July 2001 when Metallica (A famous heavy metal band) cased because its song I disappear was leaked before it was released, also Madonna's singles were leaked which annoyed her.

In 2000, A&M records with several other recording companies sued Napster for contributing to copyright violations of US Digital Millennium Act (DMC Act) The music companies made the following claims against Napster:

(1) That its users were directly infringing the plaintiff's copyright;

(2) That Napster was liable for contributory infringement of the plaintiff's copyright;

(3) That Napster was liable for vicarious infringement of the plaintiff's copyright.

The court found it guilt for all of the above and it had to be shut downed in July 2001 and was declared bankrupt in 2002 .

Soon after Napster a video exchange site was launched which was Youtube.com

Youtube.com

Youtube.com is a Video Sharing site started somewhat in 2005(February) by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim who were employed by PayPal at that time. It was somewhat influenced by Napster(which was Audio sharing) and provided with Video sharing Napster was soon closes within 3 years. Youtube wasn't closed because it was supported by Google.com which was a strong player in the internet field and backed You Tube.

Google took over You Tube in 2006 and Hurley studied design at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, while Chen and Karim studied computer science together at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaig.

It is said that the two developers developed You Tube as they were having big problems in sharing videos with their friends.

You Tube is now the biggest Video Sharing website having the Traffic Rank of 3 and there are many small sites like metacafe.com which also offers Video Sharing. There is also a Flag community in You Tube which regularly remove violated contents.

Orkut.com

Orkut was developed by Orkut Büyükkökten in June 2004, Its the one of the best and easiest social networking site. Even though it not used by majority in USA and Canada but its the most popular site in south Asian countries like India, Pakistan and even some of the more countries like Brazil. It is most visited by users in Brazil then in India.

Its the 4th most visited Social Networking site after Facebook(Traffic Rank = 5) , Myspace(Traffic Rank = 7), Friendster(Traffic Rank = 40) having a Traffic Rank of 66.

There are many more sites than claims themselves as Social Networking Site aren't so I have not included them on this list.

Orkut runs under Google Inc which helped it to grow till what it is now, But I feel Orkut is the coolest Social Networking Site ever.

Google.com

Google.com is the best and the most popular Search Engine at net, Even though Google.com is ranked 2nd in traffic terms but its superior Indexing provides with a Search result which is worth. Google helps everyone to find a useful resource, When Google Inc(By the name Backrub search) started in 1998 it main aim was to give all information to everyone available on the net and it was soon succeeded in it.

But sometimes it may give rubbish if the thing(Site) you are looking is not a popular one as It goes on for a site depending upon its Page Rank. Google helps everyone, Google Indexing also gives and many more illegal things like hacking(This is not an advantage). It generates its income from mainly Google Adsense and its e-mail services.

At the date Google Adsense is the best and highest paying Ads program. But company main focus is on Search Engine. Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were students at Stanford University.
